About the Show
**This show has been rated PG-13 due to it containing artworks and poetry of a sensitive nature, including references to drugs, alcohol, addiction, and mental illness, which may be difficult for some viewers.**
Hello! My name is Amy Frank. I work as a visual artist, writer, poet, mental health advocate, and public speaker out of my hometown, Victoria, BC, Canada.
In 2004, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Regardless of where I have been on my journey–from mental illness, homelessness, and substance misuse to sobriety and stability–my art and writing have captured that. In 2019 to 2021, I found myself in a marijuana-induced psychosis, an adventure I aptly named 'Wonderland.'
‘The Wisdom of Wonderland’, will take you through the raw transformation of my art portfolio to date. From honing realism in my youth, to my work shifting into surrealism in my teens as my substance use increased and my mental health deteriorated, all the way until today.
This show is not just about my journey—it's an invitation to start a conversation. My story is one of resilience, personal empowerment, and hope, evocatively showcased by both my visual and written works. Seeing the crisis we are facing in BC, I feel these conversations are needed now more than ever.
Let's connect, learn, grow, and heal together.
...and a special THANK YOU to Marcia Semenoff & Joanne Thomson for their encouragement, support, and mentorship.
