The Barred Owl is a common owl in North America. It's Latin name is "Strix Varia". 'Strix' meaning owl, while 'Varia' is a form of the Latin word varius, which means diverse. I've included the Barred Owl in my Wildlife collection to represent diversity.  In our society we judge the differences we see in each other. While the owl has hundreds of different breeds, in humans there is only one breed. We are all homo sapiens, despite the fact that we seem to divide ourselves into categorizes.
