I’ve titled this piece after the song: The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd from their album The Dark Side of the Moon.
I wanted to illustrate music in a surreal way. I have not created surreal art like this and Out of My Mind & Oddly at Peace since I was a teenager. Yet lately my perspective has been shifting.
I wanted to illustrate an orchestra. The room the cellist plays in is a gift. It is in the present moment.
I now realize that it is only in the present moment where possibilities reside. I can’t change yesterday and tomorrow is full of dreams and plans. When thoughts have overwhelmed me, I’ve found a wonderful way to ground myself: I stop what I’m doing, sit still and just listen to the world around me (observe sound) for 1 - 5 minutes. Quietening my thoughts has helped me tap into the whisperings of my own intuition.
The cellist plays as she is absorbed into the present moment. The audience however is captivated with watching planet earth, a symbol for our stories and inner narrative. When we are caught in our thoughts, our interpretation of events, it is harder to hear the music from our ever present intuition. Grounding helps quiet thoughts and connect with intuition which is here to guide us.
The train is moving from the world of interpretations into the excitement of the now where the music plays for those who want to hear.
