Men’s Mental Health

Although I think that opening quote fits all people, men’s mental health is an area that’s sorely lacking in our society. I’ve been following Connor Beaton for a while and I like a lot of what he shares.

I, obviously, cannot speak on behalf of men, but I can speak on behalf of myself, a woman and mental health advocate who’s attracted to men.

Men carry a lot of weight in our society. They’ve been taught from a young age to suppress their emotions; that their job is to earn money, support the family unit, and keep showing up—no matter what. A vast amount of men don’t even have that... There’s a great deal of loneliness amongst men whom are single, childless (or not connected to their child/children), as well as a lot of men living in poverty, just trying to make ends meet. It’s not shocking to see how rampant depression, addiction, and suicide are amongst males.

It’s not a weakness to cry, men. To feel utterly broken, alone, and helpless. To not know what to do. That makes you human, regardless of your sex or gender. Vulnerability takes strength. Asking for help takes strength. Admitting that you can’t do it alone takes strength.

I’m sure Connor is probably charging for his alliance, however there are places that aren’t. At Island Community Mental Health, in Victoria, BC, Canada, they just started a free men’s support group on Mondays. Lots of 12 step programs have men’s groups as well.

For all the men whom are struggling right now, please find and lean on your brothers. You don’t have to do this alone. 🫂❤️

Setting Boundaries

As I heal, the term “boundaries” comes up a lot. I don’t want to hurt anyone, including myself. To feel emotionally safe, I need to know...
